The Agenda Project’s goal is to build a powerful, intelligent, well-connected political movement capable of identifying and advancing rational, effective ideas in the public debate and in so doing ensure our country’s enduring success. Between out-dated political parties, self-interested multi-national corporations, and ineffectual elected officials, good values and common sense have lost their power in the public debate. Our goal is to return normal Americans to the center of the policy debate by cultivating an understanding of public policy, facilitating common action, and connecting the best ideas and the strongest leaders with engaged citizens, elected officials, the media, political insiders, and experts through a variety of in-person and on-line platforms.

Americans for Fair Taxation (fairtax.org) promotes The FairTax proposal, a comprehensive plan to replace federal income and payroll taxes, including personal, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security/Medicare, self-employment, and corporate taxes. The FairTax proposal integrates such features as a progressive national retail sales tax, dollar-for-dollar revenue replacement, and a rebate to ensure that no American pays such federal taxes up to the poverty level. The FairTax allows Americans to keep 100 percent of their paychecks (minus any state income taxes), and fully funds the federal government while fulfilling the promise of Social Security and Medicare.

Coal River Mountain Watch (CRMW) (crmw.net) is a grassroots organization begun in 1998 in response to the fear and frustration of people living near or downstream from huge mountaintop removal sites. We began as a small group of volunteers working to organize the residents of southern West Virginia to fight for social, economic, and environmental justice. CRMW’s efforts figure prominently in Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s book Crimes against Nature. We have been active in federal court to challenge the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permits for valley fills and made regional news with demonstrations against a sludge dam and preparation plant near Marsh Fork Elementary School.

The idea for The Community Quilt Project grew out of the custom of providing “Love Catcher” message quilts to members of Daily Kos facing grave illness or other hardship. The first project is to make wheelchair quilts for Familia Unida, an organization that serves people with MS. Quilt signing has become a Netroots Nation tradition — come by and sign your name to a signature quilt that will benefit The Community Quilt Project.

The CUT THIS Coalition believes it’s time to end capital punishment. Nearly 140 innocent people have been exonerated across America. As states try to balance their budgets by cutting social services and education, the death penalty has been able to keep its bloated budget. The CUT THIS Coalition wants to CUT the death penalty, which costs far more than a life without parole sentence, and replace it with effective alternatives that hold offenders accountable and increase public safety. It’s time to provide real resources and support to family members of murder victims.

We are comprised of legal and policy experts from:
The ACLU of California
Equal Justice USA
The StandDown Texas Project
National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty

Rather than chase the incumbents’ enormous leads and start an old-technology radio or cable business, we’re getting in front of the next big platform, the Mobile Internet. Today, there are over 100 million smartphones and tablets; by 2013 it will be a billion. The small number of radio broadcast licenses, and the high cost of starting a cable network have ensured the incumbents’ monopoly. That changes now.
