Turning Volunteers into Leaders
Volunteers are the power behind any grassroots campaign. But how can you take a good volunteer and turn them into a "Super - Volunteer", one who can take on real responsibilities and be a leader on the campaign? Through almost 18 months of campaigning in 2007 & 2008 the Obama for America campaign developed more volunteers into leaders than any other campaign in history. Organizing for America staffers will reveal some of the best tactics and tools to develop leadership on any campaign.
Nicole Derse grew up in Slinger, Wisconsin and moved to San Francisco in 2001 where she worked as the Youth Empowerment Coordinator for the SF Youth Commission. From 2004-2007, Nicole worked in SF to elect community-based candidates and spearhead progressive local and statewide initiatives.
Nicole joined the Obama for America campaign in March 2007 and started working in New Hampshire. She then worked in six different states during the primary, and spent the general election campaign as the Field Director in Wisconsin. Nicole recently moved to Washington D.C. and is now the National Training Director for Organizing for America.
