Getting your blog in front of new visitors can be a challenge. Using new online social techniques as well as old-fashioned outreach can help! Discover hands-on techniques that allow you to join the blogosphere conversation, leverage traffic from social news sites like Digg and Reddit and put your blog in front of thousands of potential visitors. Learn how to build your own online community from a panel of bloggers who have worked on their own blogs; for non-profits; and for state, congressional and presidential campaigns.

Josh Nelson

Josh Nelson is a blogger, activist and new media consultant currently living and working in the Washington, DC area.

Josh joined The Hatcher Group (http://www.thehatchergroup.com/) in March 2008, where he is the New Media Manager. At the Hatcher Group, Josh has worked with dozens of nonprofits to develop and hone their Internet outreach strategies

Josh holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in political science and interactive media studies from Miami University in Ohio, where he wrote his thesis on the role of the Internet in the electoral process.

Matt Browner Hamlin

Matt Browner Hamlin is a writer, activist, and organizer who works for the Service Employees International Union. Matt was the Internet Director for Mark Begich's Senate campaign in Alaska and the Deputy Internet Director for Chris Dodd's presidential campaign. He serves on Students for a Free Tibet's international Board of Directors. Matt writes about politics at HoldFastBlog.com and cocktails, bars, and spirits at AJiggerOfBlog.com.

Jason Rosenbaum

Jason Rosenbaum is a blogger, web designer and new media organizer living in Washington, D.C. He blogs on media issues, retroactive immunity and the presidential race and in conjunction with his fellow authors at The Seminal, he has helped build a community around the blog using social media outreach. Jason currently works as Deputy Online Director at Health Care for America NOW and the remnant manager for CommonSense Media.

Cheryl Contee

Cheryl Contee, Partner at Fission Strategy, specializes in helping non-profit organizations and foundations use social media to create social good. She is also the co-founder of Jack and Jill Politics writing as “Jill Tubman” on one of the top 10 black blogs online. Cheryl is included in The Root 100 list of established and emerging African-American leaders. Fast Company has named her one of their 2010 Most Influential Women in Tech. She has over 13 years of award-winning interactive expertise and previously served as Vice President and lead digital strategist for Fleishman-Hillard’s West Coast region in San Francisco. Cheryl has appeared in the Washington Post, New York Times, San Francisco Magazine, BBC, and CNN, among other media appearances. She is also proud to serve on several boards and advisory committees: Netroots Nation, BlogHer, Blogging While Brown, Applied Research Center, and CommonGoods.Net. She received her B.A. from Yale University and has an International Executive M.B.A. from Georgetown University. In her spare time, Ms. Contee enjoys hiking, yoga, movies and tai chi sword.
